It's known as Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is a life-saving procedure that can be used in a variety of emergencies such as drowning, heart attack, or electric shocks in which the heartbeat or breathing is been stopped. Although the technique was taught at certain schools, it was less than a half page of instruction and had no formal training.

What do we know how to use an extinguisher for fire?

Most of us are familiar with the operation of an extinguisher for fire however do not know how to switch it on. A few days ago, there was a small flame in my classroom . I was unable turn on the extinguisher. I needed to read the directions before I was competent enough to turn it off.

How many of us are aware what to do about an insect bite?

Snake bites are very common in India especially in the smaller towns, villages and cities however, what do we know what to do in these situations. I'm still not sure what size of the cut to cut in the skin, how much blood to be able to drain from the wound, or what length of time to tie the affected area. I'm unable to distinguish between poisonous and non-poisonous snake.

What direction are we taking with this kind of education if we are unable to even assist someone in an emergency?

P.S I'm not saying that what is taught in schools isn't useful. I am merely saying that these subjects should be taught. Teaching how to make use of a fire extinguisher and doing cpr, isn't too difficult.
